Chilton County Relay For Life Chairwoman Courtney Brock addresses Relay team captains at Clanton First United Methodist Church on April 10 at their final meeting before this year’s Relay event.

With the 2014 Relay For Life of Chilton County 12-hour event about two weeks away, team captains met for the last time April 10 to review fundraising goals and upcoming dates for Relay-related happenings.

Relay Chairwoman Courtney Brock said the fundraising total so far this year was nearly $48,000, including about $14,000 teams turned in before the captains’ meeting at 6 p.m. April 10.

Relay For Life Specialist Lucy Sims with the American Cancer Society Mid-South Division commended the county’s Relay teams and committee for their work and fundraising achievements.

“You are the most stress-free community, so thank you,” Sims said. “I can’t say ‘thank you’ enough.”

As of April 10, the top Relay participant was Malissia Loucks with $946.97, and the top team was Pleasant Grove Baptist Church No. 1 with $6,016.

Brock reminded everyone the 12-hour Relay event would be held Saturday, April 26 from noon to midnight, instead of starting Friday at 6 p.m. and ending Saturday at 6 a.m. as in years past.

Brock said the “Celebrate” ceremony will start at 1:35 p.m., and survivors participating in the ceremony need to line up at 1:15 p.m.
