Howard Lee Hammond

Howard Lee Hammond, 85, of Maplesville, passed away April 3 in Prattville.

He was born on Nov. 1, 1928, in Mississippi, the son of the late Walter Hammond and the late Ellar Braswell Hammond.

He was a retired farmer.

He is survived by his two daughters, Debbie Athey (Thomas) of Phenix City, Donna Babin (Richard) of Maplesville; two grandchildren, Rebecca Athey McClellan (Brad) of Daphne, Dakota Babin of Maplesville; great-grandchild, Thomas McClellan of Daphne; three brothers, Charles, Tommy and Johnny Smitherman all of Maplesville; three sisters, Pat Freeman of Mississippi, Ina Scott of Verbena and Lily Mills of Maplesville.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Ruth Lenoir Hammond; brothers, Allen and Calvin Smitherman; sister, Willie C. Bush.

Friends will be received from 5-7 p.m. on April 5 at Martin Funeral Home Chapel.

Services will be held April 6 at 2 p.m. at the graveside with the Rev. Lynn Roe officiating.

Interment will follow in Mt. Carmel No. 2 Cemetery in Maplesville.
