Paul Headley, 83, of Clanton, passed away on April 1 at his residence.

He was born in Hattiesburg, Miss. on September 17, 1930, the son of the late Matthew Stanley Headley and the late Ida Fillingane Headley.

Headley honorably served his country in the United States Army.

He was a former employee of the Prattville Gin Company.

Headley retired from the Montgomery Police Department as a captain in the vice and narcotics division.

While with the Montgomery Police Department, he flew with Eye in the Sky with traffic control.

He was a graduate of the FBI Academy. Headley then went on to retire as director of the Northeast Alabama Police Academy.

He is survived by his wife, Freda Headley of Clanton; daughter, Phyllis Hedrick of Clanton; daughter, Gloria Black of Greenville; son, Carl Headley of Seneca, S.C.; daughter, Idaleen Headley Strength of Clanton; 13 grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren and four great-great-grandchildren.

He is preceded in death by his daughter, Judy E. Rolling.

A graveside service will be held April 3 at 11 a.m. in the Chilton Memorial Gardens in Clanton with the Rev. Wayne Hughes officiating.

The family requests that in lieu of flowers, memorial contributions be made to your local Fraternal Order of Police (FOP) Lodge in his memory.
