A case involving a Chilton County man facing three counts of sodomy and one count of sexual abuse of a child less than 12 was bound to a grand jury on Tuesday.

Clint Burnett, 22, was arrested Feb. 27 for sexual abuse charges against a minor.

Burnett’s preliminary hearing was scheduled for Tuesday at 9 a.m. in front of Chilton County Judge Rhonda Hardesty.

Hardesty said the attorney representing Burnett waived his case to a grand jury, which will meet again in August.

Chief Deputy District Attorney for the 19th Judicial Circuit District Attorney’s Office C.J. Robinson said in March that it was the same male victim on all counts.

Burnett was a volunteer firefighter at Fairview Volunteer Fire Department, and Robinson said some of the crimes occurred at the fire department.

Fairview Volunteer Fire Chief Joe Cole said in March that representatives at the fire department were not aware some of the occurrences were taking place at the fire department.

Cole said Burnett had been placed on a leave of absence pending the outcome of his judicial case.

Robinson said on Tuesday that Burnett worked with the victim’s father at the fire department, which is where he met the child.

Chilton County Sheriff Kevin Davis said in March that the incidents took place in 2011 and that Burnett had been released from jail after his arrest in February.

According to Davis, authorities became involved in the case through a family member of the victim making a report to the Chilton County Department of Human Resources (DHR).

Davis said after the report was made, the Chilton County Sheriff’s Department started the investigation.

Davis was unable to confirm the age of the child but did say it was “not a small child.”

The three counts of sodomy are Class A felonies and the sexual abuse of a child less than 12 is a Class B felony.

Burnett is currently out of jail on a $55,000 bond.

The attorney representing Burnett was not immediately available for comment.
