Two wins over Holy Spirit (10-3 and 12-5) on Saturday gave Billingsley’s baseball team its ninth and 10th wins of the season.

A Dalton Davis infield single that scored Thomas Nichols put the Bears on the board first, in the bottom half of the first inning.

The Bears added four more in the bottom half of the second inning with two coming off a Davis single to right field to score Nichols and Garrett Harrell.

The Titans got on the board in the top of the third inning with Beau Clark scoring on a passed ball and Zan Jones scoring on a Galen Lee infield single.

Tyler Powell started the bottom of the third inning for the Bears (10-6) with a double to right-center field and later scored on an infield single by Kendall Elrod.

Nichols added two more runs for the Bears with a triple to right field that scored Hunter Sanders and Jarrett Acreman. With five runs in the inning, the Bears clinched a win in Game 1 of the double header.

Davis led the Bears at the plate in with a 3-for-3 performance with four RBI.

Mason Friday handled the pitching for the Bears, pitching five innings while allowing five hits, three walks and two earned runs, and striking out seven.

Lee led the Titans at the plate with a 2-for-3 performance with two singles and an RBI. Lee also got the start on the mound and pitched 2 1/3 innings, allowing six hits, five walks and nine earned runs.

The Titans got on the board first in Game 2 with a four-run top of the first thanks in large part to five walks issued by the Bears pitching.

The Bears overcame the rough start during the home side of the first inning with four runs of their own to tie the game at 4-all after one inning of play.

A Davis triple to left field scored Acreman, and a Friday infield single scored Davis to give the Bears a two-run lead in the bottom of the second inning.

Powell’s single to the right side scored Dylan Chavers to give the Bears one more run in the bottom of the third.

The Bears exploded for five runs in the bottom half of the fourth inning, and although the Titans managed to score in the top of the fifth, one run would not be enough to overcome the Bears’ lead as Billingsley picked up the win.

Friday and Davis both went 2-for-2 for the Bears during Game 2 with Friday picking up two singles and two RBI. Davis had a single and a double.

Lee led the Titans in Game 2 with a 2-for-2 performance with two singles.

Billingsley loses close game, wins another

Billingsley traveled to Reeltown on March 15 and fell, 4-3, despite Chavers’ solid pitching performance.

Chavers kept the Rebel batters off balance, allowing just one hit and two earned runs.

Reeltown received help in the second inning from a few walks followed by several Billingsley errors, allowing runs to score.

In their last turn at the plate, the Bears loaded the bases with no outs, but were unable to push enough runs across the plate.

Friday was 2-for-3 at the plate with a stolen base and RBI. Chavers, Elrod and Harrell added hits.

Following the Reeltown game, Billingsley took the field against Jeff Davis. This game featured more offense and extra innings and ended in exciting fashion as the Bears won 9-8 on a walk-off hit in the bottom of the ninth inning.

Leading the Bears’ 15-hit attack was Harrell (3-for-5), Acreman (2-for-3 with an RBI), Friday (2-for-5, RBI, stolen base) and Davis (2-for-5).

Hits were also contributed by Nichols, Chavers, Powell and Elrod. Sanders (2-for-4, RBI) stepped up to the plate in the bottom of the ninth inning with the score tied at 8-all and drove a ball up the middle to plate the winning run for the Bears.

Billingsley’s last two wins have come from walk-off hits off the bat of Sanders. Harrell was the starting pitcher and was relieved by Nichols, who shut down the Volunteer batters in the last few innings to keep the Bears in the game.
