Verbena baseball team earns important area win

Verbena’s baseball team, meanwhile, followed up a blowout win over Autaugaville on Monday with a win Tuesday in its first area game.

In a 19-0 victory over Autaugaville, the Red Devils (4-3) scored nine runs in the top of the first inning and at least one run in each inning thereafter, until the game ended after five innings via the mercy rule.

Christian Agee started on the mound for the Devils and struck out batters in five innings pitched while only allowing one hit and no walks.

Agee also went 3-for-3 at the plate with five runs scored and two runs batted in.

Cole Mims went 4-for-5 with four RBI and four runs scored, and Jared Mims went 3-for-4 with three RBI.

VHS defeated area foe Wadley, 17-3, on Tuesday.

The game was scoreless going into the third inning. Wadley put two runs on the board in the frame, but Verbena answered with seven runs and never trailed again, adding 10 more runs in the fourth inning.

Chris Cook was the winning pitcher, striking out seven batters in five innings while allowing three runs on three hits and no walks.

Both Adam Heflin and Brian Rasberry went 3-for-4 at the plate. Heflin had three RBI and three runs scored, while Rasberry had two RBI and two runs scored.

Agee went 2-for-2 with two runs and two RBI, and Jacob Wilson went 2-for-3 with two runs and two RBI.
