The Clanton Fraternal Order of Police, Smith Dale Lodge 31, will hold a movie screening June 20 to raise money for a local Christmas toy drive, the National Law Enforcement Officers Memorial Fund and Alabama’s Officers Memorial.

The movie screening will feature “Heroes Behind the Badge: Sacrifice & Survival,” a documentary film recounting the stories of law enforcement officers who were caught in the line of fire and survived, as well as those who gave their lives.

Proceeds from the screening will be divided among the FOP, NLEOMF and Alabama’s Officers Memorial.

The FOP’s portion of the proceeds will benefit its annual toy drive, Operation: Santa Claus, which provides Christmas gifts for children whose families cannot afford to buy gifts.

The movie screening will be at 7 p.m. at Jefferson State Community College.

Tickets may be purchased for $10 online or $15 at the door.

Tickets and the link to a movie trailer for “Heroes Behind the Badge: Sacrifice & Survival” are available at Clantonpd.org.

“We need to rally the population to buy tickets and buy them early,” Clanton Police Department Capt. Neil Fetner said. “We need to sell 608 tickets before June 20.”

The screening is open to the public, but parents are advised to use discretion in bringing young children, Fetner said.

The movie offers a look into the lives of law enforcement officers and issues they must deal with on a daily basis, along with how officers’ families are affected.

Fetner said Detective Whitney Ray presented the movie screening to the FOP as an idea for a fundraiser after seeing the movie in Birmingham last year.

Organizers also plan to have a special guest at the screening to be announced closer to June 20.
