Christ Independent Methodist Church

On this beautiful, cold but sunny Sabbath, it was great to begin a new week with fellow church members and visitors. We began our morning worship by singing “Come Thou Fount of Every Blessing,” “I know God’s Promise Is True” and “The Longer I Serve Him.” Then came our morning worship service, led by Dr. Mac Stinson. His sermon title was “Exciting Life of Faith and Love” with scripture from John 1:29-42.

No book in the New Testament has exerted more influence upon Christian thought and conduct than the Gospel according to John. This gospel stands apart from the other gospels in a variety of ways: its purpose and viewpoint are different; it is an interpretation, not a biography; and its profound spiritual truths are expressed in the simplest language.

John the Baptist identifies Jesus in John 1:29-32: The next day John seeth Jesus coming unto him, and saith, “Behold the Lamb of God, which taketh away the sin of the world.” This is he of whom I said, “After me cometh a man which is preferred before me: for he was before me. And I knew him not: but that he should be made manifest to Israel, therefore am I come baptizing with water.” And John bare record, saying, “I saw the Spirit descending from heaven like a dove, and it abode upon him.”

And thus we have the event of Jesus being baptized by his first cousin John.

When you pray, remember Mary Ann Carden, Dwight Sammons, Annelle Smith, Katrina Brown, Holly’s sister and all others undergoing health problems at this time. Special prayer is requested for those who will be traveling in the next two weeks.

Our One Dish Dinner on Sunday was a real treat with great food.

We welcome our visitors and invite you to come again.

Have a blessed week.

Mt. Carmel No. 1

It was a wonder Sunday morning as we gathered in the house of the Lord. To those of you who missed hearing the testimony of Natalie Littleton and her speak of her upcoming mission trip to Tanzania, Africa in June of this year you truly missed a blessing. Remember to pray for Natalie and her team as they go on this mission.

Roger Scott sang “Thank You,” an appropriate song that served as our special music. God sent a blessing to our congregation this Sunday.

“Our Hope For Tomorrow” from Psalms 139:13-16 was Bro. Derrell’s sermon title on Sunday night. The Bible speaks to us, and God had a plan for our lives before we were born. All he asks of us is to be obedient and trust in him. The Bible is a lamp to our feet and a light to our path. God recognizes the unborn because he values life, and so should we. The unborn are made in God’s image and human life is sacred to him. God is with us wherever we go.

Join us on Wednesday evening as Bro. Derrell teaches from the book of Romans.

Plans are being made to have and old-fashioned singing this Sunday night, Jan. 26. If you have a special sing or lead, please contact Louise Liveoak.

Youth Winter Jam is coming up on Feb. 9. Contact Geoffrey Lockhart if you plan to attend.

Dawn Smith Jordan will be the guest speaker at a ladies brunch that will be held on Feb. 8 at 10 a.m. at Jemison First Baptist Church. Reservations should be turned in by Jan. 23. Contact Frances Higgins.

Remember these as you pray this week: Pat Hayes, Robert and Minnie Childress, Terry Hayes, all the shut-ins, lost loved ones and our churches.

We invite you to visit and be a part of any of our services.
