Mt. Carmel No. 1

Our service began with a welcome and fellowship time. We are a small congregation, but we have good fellowship and wish all a happy New Year and invite you to come worship with us to give praise to our Lord and Savior.

The morning message was taken from Hosea 7:1-9 titled “Gray Hairs.” Our hair gets whiter and we get wiser. Hosea’s first gray hair was falsehood. We grow spiritually cold. We fail to pray about matters. We fail to take our burdens to the Lord. God knows our hearts.

Another gray hair is spiritual adultery – coming to God’s house with no spirit in your hearts to worship God. Your heart is on worldly things and not God. Be thankful for all God’s blessings. Have you thanked God for your Christmas blessings, your family and loved ones? Have you failed to thank God for your blessings of this past year?

Sunday evening, Bro. Derrell spoke from Matthew 6:33-34: “Do yourself a favor in the New Year.” How can you do yourself a favor? Matthew 6:33 tells us, “Seek ye first the kingdom of God.” You can’t enter the kingdom if you don’t know the king.

Next, look for righteousness, God’s righteousness. Prepare to do the service of the Lord, and “all these things shall be added unto you.” Don’t worry about tomorrow, “for the morrow shall take thought for the things of itself.” As the New Year approaches, “seek ye first the kingdom of God.”

On Sunday, Dec. 22, Bro. Derrell’s message was the Christmas story, with Christmas carols along with the nativity scene. Sunday night was the Christmas play “Two Nights before Christmas.” We say a great big thanks to all that had a part in our program.

There will be no Wednesday night service this week. We wish everyone a wonderful New Year.

The Sunday morning service on Jan. 5 will be a special New Year service. Come and worship with us as we start the New Year. You are invited and we will be looking for you.

Mark your calendar for Jan. 18 at 2 p.m. in the fellowship hall for the baby shower for Abby and Geoffrey Lockhart. It’s a boy!

Thank you for joining with us as we pray for all our prayer requests and thank the Lord for answering our prayers. Remember our prayer walk at the church on Thursday, Jan. 9 at 4 p.m.
