A Dothan woman was killed in Chilton County on Thursday at 5 p.m. when she was struck by a car on Interstate 65.

Mary Pelican, 50, was killed on I-65 northbound at the 223-mile marker, near Jemison according to Alabama Department of Public Safety Public Information/Education Unit spokesman Sgt. Steve Jarrett.

Jarrett said the woman was struck as she exited the vehicle and entered the travel lanes of the interstate.

The driver of the vehicle, a 2011 Nissan Versa, suffered minor injuries.

Troopers are continuing to investigate the incident and declined to provide more information.
