Hard freeze warning in effect for Wednesday

Published 12:03pm Wednesday, January 29, 2014

Sunshine is expected during the day on Wednesday, but temperatures will remain below freezing.

According to the National Weather Service in Calera, temperatures on Wednesday will be in the upper 20s with wind chill readings around zero.

A hard freeze warning is in effect for Chilton County for the day on Wednesday and Thursday morning.

The NWS asks residents to cover or insulate exposed pipes, bring in or provide shelter for pets and livestock, cover or bring inside sensitive vegetation and check on elderly or those without sufficient heat.

Freezing temperatures pose a threat to exposed pipes that might freeze or outdoor pets such as livestock.

Evening temperatures on Wednesday will be around 14 degrees with light winds expected.

Thursday’s high should reach around 40 degrees with sunshine and lows around 30 degrees.

Weekend temperatures should warm up to 60 degrees with a 20 percent chance of showers expected on Friday and Saturday.
