Joel Lavern Smitherman, 80, of Clanton, passed away on Oct. 23.

He was born on Feb. 3, 1933, in Chilton County, son of the late James Arthur Smitherman and the late Lee Ora Baker.

He was a foreman.Surviving are his wife, Janice Smitherman of Clanton; daughters, Kathy York of Birmingham, Nichole Moore (Adam) of Clanton; son, Kevin (Jerrico) Smitherman of Clanton; granddaughters, Kaylyn York of Birmingham, Lilly Moore of Clanton, Avery Claire Smitherman of Clanton; grandsons, Aiden Smitherman of Clanton, Caleb Moore of Clanton, Colin Smitherman of Clanton; sister, Carolyn Kelley of Clanton and a host of nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, James Arthur and Lee Ora Smitherman; brothers, A.J. Smitherman and Cecil Smitherman.

Friends were received from 5-8 p.m. Oct. 24 at New Harmony Holiness Church.

Services were held Oct. 25 at 11 a.m. at New Harmony Holiness Church with the Rev. Teddy Chadwick and the Rev. Kenny Coburn officiating.

Interment will follow in New Harmony Holiness Cemetery in Clanton.
