James Henry Smith

James Henry Smith, 92, of Verbena, passed away on Sept. 9 at Shelby Baptist Medical Center in Alabaster.

He was born on Monday, Dec. 27, 1920 in Chilton County, the son of the late Oscar Smith Sr. and the late Julia Ann Vance Smith.

He was a mechanic.

He is survived by his daughters, Sally Smith of Cooper, Peggy Nelson (Harold) of Clanton and Jeannie Mims (Bobby) of Cooper; grandsons, Steve and Greg Yeargan, Jeff Nelson, Jeremy Mims; granddaughters, Trish Blackmon, Jennifer Kendrick; great-grandsons, Eric Blackmon, Matthew Nelson, Kevin Kendrick, Dallas Mims, Caleb Mims;great-granddaughters, Holly Deavers, Hanna Yeargan, Dianna Brown, April Yeargan, Emily Nelson, Julie Kendrick, Alyvia Mims; great-great grandchildren, Bailey and Braxton Beadlecomb, Alana Brown, Lexi Deavers, Allie Yeargan, Natalee, Keilee, Bentlee Blackmon.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Alice Mae Smith and great-granddaughter, Brook Yeargan.

Friends will be received from 5-8 p.m. on Sept. 12 at Samara Baptist Church.

Services will be held on Sept. 13 at 2 p.m. at Samaria Baptist Church with the Rev. Charles Brooks, the Rev. Robert Ingram and the Rev. Harold Nelson officiating.

Interment will follow in Chestnut Creek Baptist Cemetery in Verbena.
