The Calera Police Department is continuing an investigation of a wreck in Chilton County early Friday that resulted in one fatality.

The crash happened at 5:45 a.m. when a motorcycle and SUV collided head-on near County Road 95.

Calera Police Department Sgt. Deven Heathcock said the motorcyclist was killed at the scene and the operator of the SUV was transported to UAB and treated for injuries.

Due to the crash still being under investigation, Heathcock could not provide the names of those involved in the crash or the extent of the injuries to the driver of the SUV.

“We are still looking into everything and will have more information as we continue the investigation,” Heathcock said.

Although the wreck happened inside the Chilton County limits, Heathcock said the portion of road near the wreck is patrolled by the Calera Police Department within the city of Calera’s jurisdiction.

“We have jurisdiction to County Road 800 and our city limits stop at County Road 95,” Heathcock said.

A portion of U.S. Highway 31 was shut down for more than one hour while officers worked the wreck.
