Board approves new employees Tuesday (updated)

A project to repave the road running from Jemison Elementary School to adjacent Jemison Intermediate School was approved by the Chilton County Board of Education on Tuesday and is expected to begin soon.

The project will cost about $14,000 to complete, and the breakdown of expenses includes asphalt for $5,000 and contract work for preparations and completion of the road with Lake Mitchell Construction for $9,000.

“They’ll supply the rest of the materials and labor,” Chilton County Schools Superintendent Dave Hayden said. “We hope to have it done before school begins.”

At previous meetings, board members and residents had voiced concerns about the road’s botched surface and steep drop-offs potentially causing school bus or vehicle accidents.

“It’s not a problem that’s going to go away,” local resident H.F. Scott said to the board Tuesday. “When you go down the hill, it goes all the way down and makes a sharp turn right at the edge of the (school) building. On the right-hand side of that road right there, you’ve got just a drop-off. It really concerns me.”

Thought our hard working superintendent was only going to
Hire teachers with degrees. Guess he forgets the editorials
That he wrote when he was a math teacher.
