Peach Festival events to start Saturday

The 2013 Chilton County Peach Festival will officially begin with several events this weekend.

The annual Little Miss Peach Pageant will be held Saturday at 6:30 p.m. at Chilton County High School in the auditorium.

Admission is $5 per person.

The 10th Annual Peach Run will be held Saturday morning.

The event includes a 5K and 10K race starting at 7 a.m., along with a 1-mile fun run starting at 7:10 a.m.

All three races start and end at Cornerstone Fitness and Wellness in Clanton.

Those interested in participating may call Cornerstone to request a registration form or go by and fill one out prior to the event.

A $100 cash prize will be awarded to the male and female winner of the 5K and 10K races.

A $50 prize will be awarded to the overall winner of the 1-mile fun run.

Everyone is invited to come out and support the runners before and after the races at Cornerstone or along the route during each race.

Convenient spectator sports can be found along Highway 145, between Cornerstone and Alfa Insurance.

The 2013 Peach Festival Cook-Off and Cooking Demonstration will be held Saturday at 10 a.m. at Thorsby First Baptist Church in the fellowship hall.

The cook-off will include an adult division (age 20 and above) and a youth division (ages 9–19).

Cash prizes will be given to the top three winners in each division.

A food demonstration will be presented to guests while the judges evaluate the cook-off dishes.

Works entered in this year’s Roy Wood Peach Festival Art Show will be displayed at Peoples Southern Bank in downtown Clanton through Monday.

Residents may stop by the bank during normal business hours to view the works, including the winners of the junior and senior divisions.
