Six local baseball teams clinch playoff berths

Three local baseball teams have clinched area championships, while three others finished second in the area.
Area champions–which include local teams Billingsley, Chilton County and Verbena–will host first-round playoff series beginning Friday.
Time to celebrate: Craig Headley and his Chilton County teammates celebrated their area championship by showering each other with sparkling grape juice in the locker room.
Area runners-up–including Jemison, Maplesville and Thorsby–will travel for the first playoff round.
Best-of three series involving local teams are as follows:
•Wadley at Billingsley, Friday, 4 and 6 p.m.; (Saturday, noon, if needed).
•Briarwood Christian at Chilton County, Friday, 5 and 7:30 p.m.; (Saturday, 2 p.m., if needed).
•Maplesville at Verbena, Fri., 1 and 3:30 p.m.; (Sat., 1 p.m. if needed).
•Jemison at Corner, Friday, 5 and 7 p.m.; (Saturday, 1 p.m. if needed).
•Thorsby at Sipsey Valley, Friday, 4:30 and 7 p.m. (Saturday, noon if needed).
