Severe storms expected to hit area ThursdayBy Emily Etheredge Published 2:09pm Monday, April 8, 2013
Warm weather is expected to continue for Chilton County through Wednesday with the threat of severe storms moving in on Thursday.
According to meteorologist Matt Grantham of the National Weather service in Birmingham, some strong and severe thunderstorms should hit Chilton County around noon on Thursday after highs reach the low 80s for Tuesday and Wednesday.
“There will be a line of showers and thunderstorms coming out of Mississippi and into Alabama Thursday morning,” Grantham said.
Grantham said there is a possibility of damaging winds and flash flooding and there could be the threat of one or two isolated tornadoes throughout the state on Thursday.
“The whole state will more than likely be under a tornado watch for much of the day Thursday,” Grantham said. “We will be watching this line of storms moving across the state and it should be moving out of Alabama by Thursday night.”
Once the storms move through the area, Grantham said sunshine should return for the remainder of the week with highs in the low 70s.
“It looks like it will be a nice weekend with sunny skies for Saturday and Sunday,” Grantham said.
