Churches announce Easter services

With the Easter weekend coming up, several churches in the area will have special services to coincide with Easter Sunday. In addition to special Sunday services, certain churches will host Good Friday and Maundy Thursday services as well.

•Providence No. 2: Will not conduct a Good Friday service, but will be hosting their annual Sunrise Service, a staple of the church since 1981. The outdoor event will start at 6:30 a.m. on Easter Sunday, and follow the life of Jesus from birth to death, with run time being approximately an hour. The church will have a worship service at 10:45.

•Grace Fellowship in Clanton: Will have standard Sunday worship services at 11.

•Clanton First United Methodist: Will have a Maundy Thursday service at 6:30 p.m. and will have a Good Friday service at noon with a light lunch following. Saturday the church will host a Family Easter Celebration with an egg hunt. In a bit of a twist on the traditional Easter Egg hunt, each egg will have a different symbol related to Easter on it, and a station explaining what the symbol means. Sunday services will be the standard 8:15, 9:30 and 10:45 worship services.

•Clanton First Baptist: Will not be having Good Friday services, but will having special Easter music as a part of its standard Sunday morning service at 10:30 a.m.

•Thorsby First Baptist: Will be hosting a simulcast of David Platt’s “Secret Church” from 6 p.m. to 12 a.m. on Good Friday. Easter Sunday will feature a Sunrise Service at 7 a.m., with Sunday school at 9:45 a.m. and worship service at 11 a.m., featuring an Easter musical led by the church choir entitled “No More Night.”

•Rocky Mount United Methodist Church: Will follow their normal Sunday worship schedule, but will be hosting a Maundy Thursday service at 7 p.m.

•Bethsalem Baptist Church: Will follow their standard Sunday worship schedule, but will not have Sunday evening services.

•Jemison First Baptist: Will be following standard their Sunday morning worship schedule, but will host a Tenabrae of “darkness”  service on Good Friday at 7 p.m.

•West End Baptist: Will follow their normal Sunday worship schedule.

•Mountain Springs Church in Clanton: Will have a sunrise service on Easter Sunday at 6 a.m. with Wayne Hughes preaching. Regular services will be at 9:45 a.m. and 5:30 p.m.

•Cedar Grove: Will have an Easter drama on March 31 during the morning service at 10:45 a.m.

All governmental offices in Chilton County will maintain regular office hours on Good Friday.
