On March 7 at about 3:30 p.m., the Clanton Police Department narcotics detectives, with assistance from ESU officers, executed a search warrant at 1307 Fourth Ave. S. in Clanton.

During a search of the property, detectives located about 44 grams of cocaine and a 1/2-pound of marijuana.

Capt. David Clackley said the amount was larger than what is normally confiscated.

“It wasn’t a large amount,” he said. “But it’s one of the bigger [busts] in recent memory.”

Two subjects at the residence were arrested and transported to the Chilton County Jail.

Jasper Barnes, 37, and Ericka Childers, 39, both of Clanton, were both charged with drug trafficking, possession of marijuana in the first degree, chemical endangerment of a child and possession of drug paraphernalia.

According to Clackley, Barnes was a repeat offender.

Both suspects have made bond on the charges.
