Jerry Hinton Wise

Jerry Hinton Wise, devoted father, grandfather, husband and friend, passed away on Sunday at the age of 67.

Jerry was born on Nov. 27, 1945, a 1963 graduate of Chilton County High School and a 1967 graduate of the University of Alabama where he pursued graduate studies at Alabama and UAH.

He served in the U.S. Army, stationed in Korea 1968-1970. He worked for the Department of Defense for 34 years and was an active member of the Rotary Club of Chilton County and Verbena United Methodist Church.

He was preceded in death by his parents, William Hinton Wise and Martha Evelyn Downs Wise and his brother, Bobby Gene Wise.

Survivors include his son, Michael Joshua Wise (Alexis Elizabeth Brown) of Brooklyn, N.Y.; daughter, Katherine Rollins Wise (John Scott Knecht) of Seattle, Wash.; grandsons, Rollins Scott Knecht and Leo Joshua Knecht; lifelong companion and wife of 39 years, Elizabeth M. Wise; sister, Patricia Wise Moore (James C. Moore Jr.) of Birmingham; sister-in-law, Clara Wise of Clanton; and many nieces, nephews and friends.

A graveside service will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, March 6, at Maple Hill Cemetery with the Rev. Steve Reneau officiating.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to St. Jude Children’s Hospital or Verbena United Methodist Church at P.O. Box 7, Verbena, 36091.
