One killed in I-65 wreck (updated)

A Michigan man was killed Thursday as a result of a wreck that shut down Interstate 65 near mile marker 222.

Frank Gonzalez, 84, died and four others were injured in the wreck, which involved four vehicles, according to information provided by Alabama State Troopers.

Gonzalez was a passenger in a 2011 Ford Explorer that was struck from behind by a 2005 Chevrolet Silverado driven by Angela Headley of Clanton, according to Troopers.

The driver of the Explorer, Margaret Gonzalez, suffered life-threatening injuries. Headley and the drivers of the other two vehicles involved, Gayle Kassay of Athens, Ga., and Mittie Mason of Birmingham, suffered non-life-threatening injuries.

The wreck occurred at 2:40 p.m., and northbound lanes were closed until about 5:30 p.m. as emergency responders worked.
