Man killed in Highway 31 wreck

Published 8:54pm Monday, February 4, 2013

One person died and at least three others were hospitalized following a wreck Saturday night in Thorsby.

Two vehicles traveling in opposite directions collided on Highway 31 in north Thorsby, according to town Police Chief Rodney Barnett.

Mike Chancellor was killed in the wreck. Three of Chancellor’s family members—wife Beth and two children, one under the age 10 and one under the age of 5—were transported to hospitals after the incident.

The Chancellors were all traveling in one vehicle. A second vehicle was involved. The identity and condition of the driver—and sole occupant—of the second vehicle couldn’t be determined Monday.

The wreck occurred about 11:30 p.m. on Saturday.

Thorsby Police were first to respond, but Alabama State Troopers are investigating the incident.

“As with many small departments, we don’t have anybody that has gone through traffic homicide training,” Barnett said. “We held the scene until the troopers got there.”

I think it’s a complete miscarriage of justice that this newspaper can publish the names of everyone involved in this horrific wreck, that took a man’s life. He was a father, a son, a brother and a husband; but “mysteriously” the person that hit them and took this man’s life and changed the lives of untold people couldn’t be named? How weird and strange is that? The “alleged” mysteriously missing person must be incredibly powerful and have a lot of juice behind him or her to be so protected in this small southern town. Small towns, small minds! That is disgusting and wrong! You all should be ashamed! God doesn’t like ugly and I will continue to pray for the victims of this senseless and irresponsible act. Alcohol involved maybe…? Sad! God, please comfort and guide all of those involved that they might see justice done for this family!

The facts are there! It is simply a “journalist” (and I use the term loosly) trying to make a story to make a deadline to make a headline in a newspaper that is little more than gossip. Report the whole story or shut up!
