Two Clanton residents have been arrested for felony shoplifting at the local Walmart.

Rickey Easterling, 38, and Leslie Knox, 36, have been charged with second-degree theft of property and placed in Chilton County Jail, with bonds of $10,000 each, Clanton Police Department Detective Whitney Ray confirmed in a release.

CPD Officer Larry Colburn was entering Walmart on an unrelated police matter when he saw Easterling and Knox exiting the store while being followed by a Walmart Loss Prevention Officer. Colburn detained the two suspects.

Surveillance video footage showed the suspects hiding items in an attempt to leave without paying for them, according to the release. The video also showed the suspects making several trips in and out of the store.

An ensuing investigation turned up about $1,500 worth of stolen Walmart merchandise.

“Many of our businesses have top-notch surveillance systems that make it easier for us to do our jobs, but I have to say Walmart has got the best,” CPD Chief Brian Stilwell said in the release. “Chances of stealing from Walmart and getting away are slim.”
