Pay raise approved for Clanton city employees

Clanton city employees are getting pay raises of about 3 percent.

The city council approved the measure on Monday as recommended by Mayor Billy Joe Driver.

The council also approved a couple of measures for the police department, including allowing Chief Brian Stilwell and Capt. Neil Fetner to attend the state police chief’s conference in Montgomery at the end of the month, and posting a vacancy for a corporal in the department to replace an employee who left for another job.

The council tabled a motion to search for a full-time building inspector. The action effectively leaves the position’s responsibilities as they are now, being contracted out to qualified people but not belonging to a full-time city employee.

Councilmember Jeffrey Price suggested the council hold a work session to discuss the position.
