Thorsby basketball teams fall to Central-Coosa

Thorsby’s boys and girls basketball teams fell on Wednesday to area foe Central-Coosa.

The THS girls fell 49-26 as the Cougars of Central-Coosa (5-7 overall, 3-1 area) jumped out early on the Rebels (2-14, 0-4) building a 13-point lead during the first period.

A 0-for-11 effort from behind the 3-point line cost the Rebels in the first half as the Cougars padded their lead to 22 points at the half.

The Cougars continued to build on their lead throughout the third and fourth periods.

Thorsby ended up shooting 3-for-30 from beyond the 3-point line.

Trinity Lowery led the way for the Rebels with eight points and two rebounds. Sabrina Ellison added six points and 12 rebounds for the Rebels.

Thorsby’s varsity boys (7-8, 0-4) fared no better than the girls, losing at home to Central, 60-45.

Both teams started out slow, but the Cougars (5-7, 4-1) were able to build a 6-point lead at the end of the first period.

The Cougars continued to pull away from the Rebels through the second period and went to the locker room with a 31-21 lead.

Thorsby was able to keep pace with Central in the third period but unable to cut into the 10-point deficit.

Solid free throw shooting in the fourth period by the Cougars gave them the victory.

Michael Daniel led the way for the Rebels with 20 points–including shooting 6-of-15 from 3-point range–and two rebounds.

Bradley Evans of Thorsby added six points, 10 rebounds and three blocks.

Central’s Xavier Moon scored a game-high 30 points, including shooting 3-of-6 from 3-point range and 13-of-15 from the free throw line.
