Relay 2013 kickoff set for Monday

Published 6:54pm Wednesday, January 9, 2013

Relay For Life in Chilton County is not limited to a 12-hour period of time.

The annual event responsible for bringing hundreds of people together in the fight against cancer is surrounded by other events throughout the year, such as the kickoff rally scheduled for Monday, Jan. 14.

The kickoff will take place at Kountry Kitchen at 6 p.m.

Cancer survivors will be honored, and anyone interested in forming a Relay team is invited to attend.

“The 2013 American Cancer Society Relay For Life of Chilton County will officially get underway as event volunteers, participants and survivors gather to launch fundraising efforts for the year,” Relay chairwoman Aimee Eiland said. “Anyone who thinks they may be interested in getting involved in our local Relay should definitely come out for more information.”

The guest speaker will be Dennis Itson of Montgomery, an American Cancer Society Hero of Hope this year.

Eiland said the kickoff is also an opportunity to register a team and select a campsite for the 2013 Relay For Life event to be held from 6 p.m. April 26 to 6 a.m. April 27 at the Clanton Youth Football Field.
