The third annual Get Moving Jemison 5K run and walk and fitness expo is slated to begin March 16 at 8 a.m. at the Jemison Municipal Complex.

Program organizer Ginny Hallmark said the main goal of the event is to inform the community about the importance of living an active and healthy lifestyle.

“Chilton County is one of the most obese counties in Alabama,” Hallmark said. “Many health issues can be decreased or reversed if people would exercise and move more along with eating a healthier diet.”

Hallmark said the event will have Harlem Globetrotter Michael Douglas who also attended the event in 2011.

“We will have about 50 vendors that set up for the fitness expo that will start after the race is finished at 12 p.m.,” Hallmark said. “We will also have door prizes and medals that we will hand out to the top finishers in the race as well as a one mile fun run/walk.”

Hallmark said the expo is free but to run or walk in the race costs $20 and includes a T-shirt.

“It is important for people to know that living a healthier lifestyle can be done,” Hallmark said. “Even with a disability, it is still possible.”

Hallmark said anyone interested in registering for the race can register at www.active.com.
