Published 7:54am Monday, December 24, 2012

It took two overtime periods, but the Jemison Panthers finally took down region foe Bibb County at home, 51-50 on Dec. 18.

The game was an absolute shootout in every sense of the word, as both teams were tied at 23 at halftime. The second half proved to be more of the same, with each squad posting 17 at the end of regulation.

In the first overtime, the most either team could muster was three points, and the fight continued through the second with the Panthers managing to pull ahead and hang on by the slimmest of margins.

Jeremiah Gates led the Panthers with 15 points and also posted nine rebounds and two steals. B.J. Kornegay put up a double-double, scoring 11 points with 12 rebounds. He also had three steals.

The Jemison girls also won, beating the Choctaws 28-24.

Both teams’ next region game will be on the road at Calera Jan. 4.
