Jemison boys roll, girls fall on the road

The Jemison Panthers varsity boys’ basketball team moved to 3-2 on the season with a 50-38 win over Montevallo on Tuesday.

Austin Lovette finished with 17 points against the Bulldogs.

Jeremiah Gates posted 11 points and seven rebounds, and Cade Hatch pulled down eight rebounds.

The Panthers were fresh off an appearance in the Clay-Chalkville Cougar Thanksgiving Classic tournament, where they lost to Hueytown, 62-47, and Carver-Birmingham, 48-44; and beat Parkway Christian, 60-13.

Against Hueytown, Jacob Hatch scored 10 points, and both Lovette and B.J. Kornegay had nine points.

Jemison missed a shot at the buzzer to tie the game against Carver. Cade Hatch led the effort in that game with 11 points, and Kornegay had nine points.

Lovette scored a team-high 13 points against Parkway Christian. Cade Hatch had 11 points, and Zeigler had 10.

Jemison’s girls fell to 2-3 on the year as they lost to Montevallo, 46-15. Laura Vinzant finished with 10 points for Jemison.

Both squads will travel to Chilton County High on Friday to take on the Tigers.
