CCHS girls win close, boys win big over Verbena

The Chilton County girls held off a furious charge late in the game by Verbena to win 31-30 at home Monday.

The Tigers held a 26-19 lead at the start of the fourth quarter, but the Devils went on 10-0 run to take the lead late.

A Tiger 3-pointer by Lamoiya Davis tied the game at 29, and after a free throw apiece from each team, the game was tied at 30 with half a minute to play.

The Devils went to the free throw line with an opportunity to take the lead, but both shots by Jameshia Green were off the mark. A blocking foul sent Taylor Connell to the line. Connell sunk only one, but it was enough to give the Tigers the win.

Davis had 14 points for the Tigers.

Green finished with 16 points for Verbena.

The Chilton County High boys moved to 1-3, defeating Verbena 64-29.

Davre Williams led the Tigers with 21 points. Mitchell Parker scored eight and had 14 rebounds as well.
