A two-vehicle wreck Friday evening on Highway 155 left seven people in critical condition.

No deaths were reported on the scene, but the victims’ current conditions aren’t known.

North Chilton Fire Department Chief Jason Scott said the wreck, which occurred at a curve in the road that has been the scene of many other serious crashes, was the worst he’s seen in his more than 20 years with the department.

“In my career there have been 20-plus wrecks there, and most of them have been very severe,” Scott said.

According to Alabama State Troopers, Tiffany Watley of Jemison drove a 1992 Honda that also carried Matthew Lucas, Alex Rutherford, Willis Stoney and Darbie Cleckler. The other vehicle involved, a 2010 Chevrolet, was driven by Mack Tillery of Clanton. Donna Tillery was a passenger.

The vehicles crashed about 6:40 p.m. at the 3-mile marker, and NCFD was on the scene for about two hours, Scott said. Four emergency helicopters and six ambulances were brought in to transport victims to UAB Hospital and Children’s Hospital.

West Chilton, Union Grove and Calera fire departments all assisted.

“There was extreme cooperation and professionalism with all parties involved,” Scott said.

The road was closed for the duration of emergency personnel’s reponse.

Details about the cause of the wreck weren’t immediately available. Troopers are investigating.

“Keep the families in mind,” Scott urged local residents. “It’s a tragic event here around holiday time.”
