JHS tops Verbena

Jemison’s boys defeated Verbena 51-13 on Nov. 16.

The Panthers led 25-0 at the end of the first quarter, 29-2 at halftime and 45-5 after three quarters of play.

Jeremiah Gates posted a double-double with 10 points and 17 rebounds.

John Underwood had eight points and seven rebounds for JHS, and B.J. Kornegay had seven points and five rebounds.

Fred Wright led Verbena with eight points.

Verbena’s girls defeated Jemison 25-19 on the same night.

The game was tied at 15 going into the fourth quarter, but VHS pulled away with a 10-4 scoring edge in the period.

Green led all scorers with 16 points.

Johnson had seven points for Jemison, and Griffin added six points.
