James Bert Chandler, 83, of Maplesville died Monday, Nov. 19, 2012.

He was born on Friday, Sept. 20, 1929, in Chilton County, son of the late Marion Dykes Chandler and the late Mamie Lockhart Chandler.

He was a life-long farmer and avid sportsman. He served in the U.S. Navy for six years and was a proud veteran of the Korean War. He retired as a battalion chief from the Selma Fire Department after 30 years of service.

He was a faithful husband, extraordinary father, loving pawpaw, cherished friend and an inspiration to all who knew him. He ran a good race, fought a good fight and kept his faith until the end. He will be greatly missed.

Surviving are his son, Ronnie (Dianne) Chandler of Selma; two daughters, Cam (Bruce) Hutton of Clanton, Holly (Charles) Gann of Tuscaloosa; brother, Barney (Faye) Chandler; and four grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Alice Maye Chandler.

Friends will be received from 12–2 p.m., Wednesday, Nov. 21, at Martin Funeral Home Chapel.

Graveside services will be held Wednesday, Nov. 21, at 2:30 p.m. at Pilgrim Rest Baptist Cemetery with the Rev. Kirk Smith officiating.

Interment will follow in Pilgrim Rest Baptist Cemetery in Billingsley.
