The spirit of Thanksgiving seems more tangible at family dinners than anywhere else, and this year, several churches in the county are trying to ensure that everyone has a place to go for a meal and fellowship with others.

Archer’s Chapel on County Road 156 in Jemison will host a Thanksgiving celebration on Sunday, Nov. 18, at 10 a.m.

Special guest Tyler Strong will bring a message and singing.

Dinner will be served after the service. No afternoon services are scheduled.

For more information, call (205) 688-4944.

Also on Nov. 18, Center Hill Baptist Church in Jemison will have a free Thanksgiving meal at 5 p.m.

Grace Fellowship Church and Through the Grace of God Ministries will sponsor an early Thanksgiving feast on Nov. 20, at the Clanton Recreation Center on Lay Dam Road.

Pastor Jake McCall of Grace Fellowship and Bro. Ralph Bingham, the ministry’s director, organized the free event solely for the benefit of the community.

“This opens an opportunity for people to invite others that they know would benefit and feel blessed by a warm meal and encouraging fellowship,” McCall said. “All are welcome to come at their convenience on Tuesday, Nov. 20, from 10:30 a.m. until 2 p.m.”

For more information, call Grace Fellowship at (205) 755-4150 or Through the Grace of God Ministries at (205) 755-8199.

“We know that these times have brought hardship and struggle to many, so if you’ve had a rough week, or month, or couple of years, stop by when it’s most convenient for you and have a hot meal with us,” Bingham said in a release. “Regardless what the weather might be that day, the rec facility will be dry and comfortable, and the food will be good. We look forward to seeing you.”

The Fifth Annual Community Thanksgiving Dinner is scheduled for Thursday, Nov. 22, from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Brandon’s Place, located at 1204 Second Ave. N. in Clanton.

The meal is free and open to the public.

Monetary donations to help purchase food for the dinner will be accepted through Wednesday, Nov. 21.

Those interested in donating or volunteering at the dinner should contact Ruby Varner at (205) 688-0819 or Essie Coleman at (205) 287-8005.

On Thursday, Nov. 22, Pilgrim Rest Baptist Church, located at 176 Shepard Hill Road in Maplesville, will hold a Thanksgiving Day service and luncheon at 10 a.m.

The guest speaker will be Pastor James Adams of Union Baptist Church in Thorsby. For more information, call (334) 366-5300.

Verbena Baptist Church will offer a free Thanksgiving Day meal Nov. 22 from 11 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.
