Man injured in Interstate 65 crash

Published 2:32pm Monday, November 5, 2012

A Billingsley man was injured early Saturday morning when a tractor-trailer struck his vehicle while he was changing a tire, according to the crash report.

Albert Wayne Vickers was airlifted to UAB Hospital after the incident, which occurred about 5:30 a.m. near Interstate 65 Northbound Mile Marker 222 in Chilton County. He was treated and later released, according to Sgt. Steve Jarrett with the Alabama Department of Public Safety.

According to the report filed by Alabama State Troopers, a tire on a trailer being pulled by Vickers went flat.

He stopped to change the tire but did not have working lights on the trailer and did not pull all the way off the roadway.

While Vickers was working on the tire, an 18-wheeler struck the rear right portion of the trailer, knocking the trailer into Vickers.

No charges were filed in the incident.
