Verbena man killed in wreck

Vernon Evans, 80, of Verbena was killed in a wreck Thursday at the intersection of Chilton County Road 59 and Highway 22, eight miles south of Clanton.

The 1995 Chevrolet pick-up truck driven by Evans collided with a 2001 Nissan Altima about 4 p.m.

The driver of the Altima, Jasmine Uribe of Raymondville, Texas, and her children, ages 4 and 2, were injured, according to a press release from Alabama State Troopers.

Uribe was taken to UAB Hospital by helicopter, according to the release, and both children were taken to Children’s Hospital, one by ambulance and one by helicopter.

State troopers continue to investigate.
