A tail light violation for a Clanton man turned into charges of marijuana possession following a traffic stop on U.S. Highway 31 in Hartselle on Sunday.

Jason Dewayne Liveoak, 32, of Clanton was charged with first-degree unlawful possession of marijuana, according to a press release. He is being held in the Morgan County Jail on a $2,500 bond.

Sgt. Kel Roberts stopped a vehicle on U.S. 31 South for a tail light violation, according to the release. Upon verbal consent to search the vehicle, the officer and Morgan County Drug Task Force agents discovered a large amount of marijuana, more than $4,000 in U.S. currency and a .45-caliber handgun.
