Three volleyball teams advance

Three Chilton County area volleyball teams have advanced to the regional round of the state playoffs, while one other will try to advance Saturday.

Jemison finished second in the Class 4A, Area 7 tournament. The top two teams from each area advance to the super regional round.

The Panthers defeated West Blocton, 3-1 (18-25, 25-8, 25-19, 25-17), but lost to tournament host Calera in the area championship match, 3-0 (25-15, 25-17, 25-22).

JHS will next compete in the South super regional tournament against Charles Henderson High School at 4:15 p.m. on Oct. 26 in Montgomery.

Local teams Billingsley and Maplesville both advanced out of the Class 1A, Area 5 tournament.

Billingsley started the tournament, which was hosted at the school, by knocking out Ellwood Christian.

Maplesville then came from behind for a win in an epic match against Autaugaville, 3-2 (23-25, 19-25, 25-15, 25-13, 19-17), that earned the Red Devils a trip to a regional tournament.
