Man killed by gunshot wound identified

Published 4:32pm Wednesday, October 10, 2012

A man who died from a gunshot wound Tuesday night at Rolling Oaks Apartments has been identified as 19-year-old Daquan Marquise Crenshaw.

Crenshaw resided at the apartment on Eighth Street in Clanton where the shooting occurred at about 8:30 p.m.

Clanton Police and other emergency responders pronounced the victim dead at the scene, apparently from a single gunshot wound.

Two people on the scene at the time of the crime were taken by detectives for questioning, and one was released. The other, Leonard McKaskin, was arrested for a misdemeanor charge of disorderly conduct and booked into Chilton County Jail. He has since made bond on that charge.

Clanton Police Chief Brian Stilwell said McKaskin’s arrest is unrelated to the shooting.

Capt. David Clackley said both people interviewed are cooperating with police.

An autopsy has been scheduled, and Clanton Police are treating the case as death investigation, Stilwell said.

“This investigation is still ongoing, and any determination will be made after all the facts are collected,” he said.
