Rotary Club of Chilton County golf tournament is Oct. 25

The Rotary Club of Chilton County will be hosting its third annual Golf Tournament Oct. 25 at Timberline Golf Course in Calera.

Club President Bill Evans said the idea to have a golf tournament in the fall came from a group led by former club member Joe Baugh.

“Joe Baugh was instrumental,” he said about starting the tournament. “He brought a lot of his friends from Birmingham (to play in the event).”

While it may seem a bit different in hosting a golf tournament in the middle of football season, Evans said it fit right into Rotary Club traditions.

“Like any organization, Rotary always looks for ways to fundraise, and there’s only so many possibilities,” he said. “A lot of Rotary clubs around the world host them.”

The cost to enter the tournament is $500 per team, with teams having the opportunity to buy a mulligan per member for $40. Also available is the opportunity to sponsor holes for $150 per hole.

Evans said he expects a good turnout this year, hoping to improve on a high mark from last year.

“Last year we had about 60 golfers,” he said. “We hope to do a little better this year.”

All proceeds will go towards various charities and scholarships in the county. For more information, contact Gordon Swenson at 205-755-4657.
