Thorsby defeated on HomecomingBy Emily Beckett Published 11:32pm Friday, September 28, 2012
The extra dose of school spirit at Thorsby’s homecoming wasn’t enough to propel the Rebels (1–4) to a win against Horseshoe Bend (4–1) in a non-region game Friday.
The Generals defeated the Rebels, 48–14.
After having lost several starting players to injury, Thorsby has struggled to make ends meet in its new classification.
“We’re new to 3A, and it’s been a lot of loss for us to kind of recover,” head coach Billy Jackson said Friday. “We kind of showed that tonight.”
For Thorsby, senior Nathan Oldroyd had 9 completions of 15 attempts for a total of 97 yards, five rushes for 30 yards and a touchdown.
Sophomore Chris Brown was the leading receiver with four receptions for 51 yards and had five rushes for 35 yards.
Senior Nolan Hayes had 12 attempts for 71 yards and Thorsby’s first touchdown.
Senior Dalton Turner was the leading tackler with 12 tackles.
Senior Brady Garrigus had nine tackles.
Thorsby announced its 2012 Homecoming Court during halftime.
Senior Haley Barnett was crowned Homecoming Queen. Her court included junior Laken Patterson, sophomore Darian Green, freshman Allie Yeargan, eighth grader Alaina Muir and seventh grader Bailey Underwood.
Thorsby will host Trinity in a region game Oct. 5.
