R. Tasker Powell

Mr. R. Tasker Powell, 92, of Lanett died Wednesday, Sept. 19, 2012, at The Lanier Memorial Hospital in Valley.

Graveside services will be Friday, Sept. 21 at 2 p.m. at The Concord Baptist Church Cemetery with the Rev. Al Cougill officiating.

Mr. Powell is survived by his son, Joel Powell; his granddaughter Kia (Chad) Westwood; two great-grandsons, Luke Emerson and Parker Cole Westwood; and a “daughter-in-law,” Cindy (Al) Cougill. Also surviving are several cousins.

Born Feb. 13, 1920, in Clanton, Mr. Powell was the son of the late Joseph Lawrence and Dora Lillie Robinson Powell.

Also preceding him in death was his loving wife of 62 years, Mary Elizabeth “Besty” Jones Powell; a brother, Melvin Powell; and a sister, Hazel Lawrence.

Tasker loved to go camping and was a member of Valley Bag-A-Bon Camping Club. He was also a charter member of the Tallapoosa Power Squad. Tasker also excelled in his chosen career as a sales rep, earning many top sales awards.

Mr. Powell served his country during World War II as a Corporal in the U.S. Army, earning him a European Service Medal with four Bronze Stars.

Tasker Powell will be missed by his family and many friends alike.

The family will receive friends Thursday from 6-8 p.m. at Resthaven Funeral Chapel.

Resthaven Funeral Home in Lanett is handling arrangements.
