Rebels take Tigers on the road

The Thorsby Rebels outlasted the Chilton County High School Tigers to pick up a much-needed volleyball win, 3-1, Monday night in Clanton.

In front of a strong crowd, the Rebels jumped out early to win the first set as both teams struggled at times to execute, finding the net quite often.

CCHS got the upper hand in the second set, racing out to a 7-0 lead, and never looked back.

The Rebels came from behind to tie up the set at game point, and pulled out the win in the third set. They closed out the match by holding off a late rally by the Tigers as they closed within one but fell just short.

Thorsby coach Ginger Williams felt the win was a huge boost for the Rebels going forward.

“It’s always tough [winning on the road],” she said. “This is big, being it’s a county win. Tonight we found a way to win. It helps our confidence. It teaches us we can have a bad night but still find ways to win.”

Jennifer Spivey led the Rebels with eight kills, five aces and seven digs. Sabrina Ellison had five kills with Jackie Holcomb posting five aces and Keela Lucas contributing 19 assists for the Rebels.

For the Tigers, Kacy Sanders had 11 set assists and nine aces, and Roshelle Alebert had nine kills.
