Bethany Baptist Church

Sunday morning, James and Jean Gray, Lori Knight and Elaine Staton sang “Redeemed.” “God’s Final Call” was the choir special.

Bro. Steve’s sermon was from Jeremiah 33:1-11. Jeremiah had a heavy burden for the Israelites because of their idolatry and resulting captivity in Babylon and was called, “The Weeping Prophet.” His messages to the people were met with rejection and imprisonment. While imprisoned, Jeremiah was given this promise from verse 3: “Call unto me and I will answer thee and show thee great and mighty things, which thou knowest not.” Prayer is a gracious invitation from God Himself. It is a command, but also a great privilege. With the assurance that He will answer, our faith is strengthened. God’s answers are even better than our prayers. He promises great and mighty things which we don’t know about.

Bro. Steve brought a challenging message on “First Things First,” using Matthew 6:24-34. We are reminded to seek the Lord and His kingdom, and a pure life; if we put God first in our life, God will provide abundantly all the things that we need and that are best for us.

Upcoming events: Sept. 30, Annual Homecoming at Bethany. We will begin our service with singing at 10 a.m. (We will omit Sunday School.) After the morning services, we will have lunch in the fellowship hall. Everyone is welcome to attend.

Prayer list: Betty Biggs, James Bixler, Arnold DeLoach, Doris and Verdie Glenn, Hubert Griffin, Mildred Griffin, Ernestine Hatch, Ethel Kelly, Billie Neeley and Skipper Wallace.
