Verbena fell to Wadley, 34-6, in the first region game of its season Friday.

Neither team got points on the board early, but the Bulldogs managed a touchdown with 1 minute remaining in the first quarter.

At halftime, Wadley was leading the Red Devils, 14-0.

Things started looking up for Verbena in the second half. Sophomore Chris Smith had an interception, and later, a fumble recovery helped the Red Devils to their first touchdown of the night.

However, Wadley gained momentum in the fourth quarter and closed the game with a final touchdown in the last 4 minutes of play.

For Verbena, senior Jeronskie Williams was the top rusher with 30 carries for 145 yards and one touchdown.

Senior Fred Wright led in tackles, with seven solo tackles and three assists.
