Jack E. Smith, of Clanton, was released from pain by a loving heavenly father on Aug. 27, 2012.

He was a Clanton resident most of his life. He served four years in the U.S. Navy during the Korean War, and four years in the U.S. Navy Reserves.

He is survived by his beloved grandson, Matt Harrison of Crestview, Fla.; along with his daughter and son-in-law, Gwen and Greg Harrison, both of Clanton.

He is also survived by five siblings: Wilene Davenport of Birmingham, Charles Smith of Aiken, S.C., Bill Smith of Paisley, Fla., Sherry Turner of Naples, Fla., and Ron Smith of Birmingham.

Preceding him in death were his parents, Glover I. Smith and Inez W. Johnson Smith Nivens of Clanton, and his brother, Milton.

Visitation will be held on Friday, Aug. 31 from 6-8 p.m. at Ellison-Cleckler Funeral Home.

Funeral services will be held on Saturday, Sept. 1 at 9 a.m. from the Memorial Chapel of Ellison-Cleckler Funeral Home.

Burial will follow in the Liberty Hill Baptist Church Cemetery in Clanton.
