The Clanton Advertiser added to its haul of awards in the 2012 Alabama Press Association Better Newspaper Contest.

Most of the awards were announced earlier, and the Advertiser placed in eight editorial categories and six advertising awards.

The major awards were announced Saturday during the Southeastern Press Convention in Destin, Fla.

The Advertiser was recognized in the following categories:

•Second place, Advertising Sweepstakes, the top overall advertising category.

•Third place, General Web Excellence.

•First place, Continuing Web Coverage, for the chronicling of a soldier from Jemison who was wounded in Afghanistan.

The Advertiser competes in Category B, against other small daily newspapers.

Also, the Shelby County Reporter (Category C) and The Greenville Advocate (Category D) won first place and second place in their respective categories for Best Presswork.

Both newspapers are printed on the press operated by Clanton Newspapers, Inc.
