Plans coming together for MHS band, P.E. building

Published 3:23pm Thursday, July 5, 2012

School officials are hoping to add a new building to the Maplesville High School campus before this year is over.

The building will be a multifunctional facility designated for the MHS Red Devil Band and P.E. classes.

At present, the school has no separate room in which the band can practice and store its equipment.

“We definitely need the band portion of it, that’s for sure,” Principal Maggie Hicks said. “Those students don’t have a place that they can call their own. They’ve been using the auditorium (and) it puts a lot of stress on the air conditioners in there.”

The building will be located next to the existing gym.

“It would be very conducive to the band to get them in that location,” Hicks said.

The Chilton County Board of Education approved an architect’s plans for the building in June and will open bids and approve a builder at the July 17 meeting.
