Schools to hold new student registration, orientationBy Emily Beckett Published 5:25pm Wednesday, June 6, 2012
Schools in Chilton County have released registration dates and times for the 2012-2013 year.
All parents of children who plan to attend and are not already enrolled should come to the school and pick up a registration packet, complete the information and return it to the school on July 10 between 8 a.m. and 2 p.m.
Most of the registration papers may also be downloaded from the JES website.
Other necessary papers for student enrollment include a certified birth certificate; original, unexpired Alabama Certificate of Immunization; Social Security card or TIN; and proof of residence (a utility bill or lease agreement showing name and address).
A parent or legal guardian must complete the information for the student. A copy of custody or guardianship papers will be required, if applicable.
If the student will be entering first–fourth grades, a report card or withdrawal form from their previous school should be included. Parents should bring all papers to registration.
If a student will be in kindergarten, they must be 5 years old on or before September 2.
In addition, parents will sign up during registration for a time to have the new
kindergarteners assessed. A skills list will be given to parents to let them know which skills will be assessed.
Orientation for parents and all new and returning students are as follows:
•Kindergarten – Aug. 14 at 6 p.m.
•First grade – Aug. 14 at 7 p.m.
•Second grade – Aug. 16 at 6 p.m.
•Third grade – Aug. 16 at 6:30 p.m.
•Fourth grade – Aug. 16 at 7 p.m.

Registration for returning students, including rising fifth graders coming from Jemison Elementary School, will be Aug. 14 from 8:30–11:30 a.m. and 12:30–3 p.m.
Students and parents can meet teachers, tour the school, bring supplies and get vital information about the start of school. Students who do not come to registration on the Aug. 14 will have to wait until Aug. 20 to get registration packets and information.
On Aug. 15, JMS will be enrolling students new to the Jemison schools.
This is not for children transferring into JMS who enrolled over the summer.
Those who enroll before Aug. 10 will be in the system, have a schedule and come on Aug. 14.
Aug. 15 is for parents and students who need to go through the full enrollment and registration process.
Last year’s dress code will remain in place for the 2012–2013 school year, and parents can access it from the school’s website or come by JMS any day over the summer, Monday through Friday, 8 a.m. to 3 p.m., and pick up a copy in the front lobby, along with a supply list.
